Sky Broadband – Supplier Review

Sky Broadband – Supplier Review

Although Sky is one of the giants in the world of TV, they are also one of the UK’s largest broadband suppliers, with literally millions of customers. The most obvious reason for getting broadband from Sky is if you are looking for a combined package including broadband and TV, and maybe also a mobile phone package. For many people, buying these services from one company is cheaper than buying them from different suppliers.

For the majority of UK households, Sky has two basic broadband products, one ADSL and one FTTC fibre.

Broadband Products

Sky broadbandSky Broadband Essential:  Broadband Essential an ADSL broadband service, offering average download speeds of 11Mbps. The current price of £20 a month is on an 18 month minimum term contract. Depending on your line status there may be charges to re-activate stopped lines or to install a new line if you don’t already have live broadband services.

Sky Broadband Superfast: This is an FTTC fibre broadband service, offering average download speeds of 59Mbps. The current price of £27 a month is on an 18 month minimum term contract. Depending on your line status there may be charges to re-activate stopped lines or to install a new line if you don’t already have live broadband services.

Sky also offer an Ultrafast broadband service but we don’t have details of current offers.

Installation and getting online

New Sky broadband customers are provided with a free Sky Q Router to access their services. The Sky Q allows users to connect up to 64 devices at once and uses Smart Signal Technology to optimise your wi-fi connection and create hotpots around the home to enhance reception, and offers 4 ethernet ports.

Sky use the Openreach network which means a new installation will take around two weeks from the time of order. Once the router arrives and your broadband is activated you will need to set it up yourself, although clear instructions are provided.

Customer Satisfaction

Ofcom reports show that Sky ranks as one of the best of the larger broadband suppliers when it comes to handling complaints. Customer services are available on the phone 7 days a week from 8.00am to 9.00pm.
